National SQP Week gets off to a strong start across the UK
Industry invited to get behind the first ever national campaign celebrating SQPs and raising awareness of their vital role in animal health and welfare
National SQP Week is now live across the UK and has got off to a strong start, with stakeholders across the sector already getting involved, sharing campaign content and celebrating the important contribution SQPs make to animal health and welfare. The campaign is designed to shine a spotlight on the vital role Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs), also known as Animal Medicines Advisors, play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of livestock and pets. Running from 5–12 June 2026, the week-long campaign is the first of its kind and is designed to celebrate SQPs while helping more people understand the expertise and value they bring every day.
Led jointly by the three industry regulators, AMTRA, Vetpol and VetSkill, the campaign is now calling on the wider animal health sector to show its support. Retailers, pharmaceutical companies, animal owners, veterinary practice teams, government and SQPs themselves are all encouraged to get involved, help amplify the campaign and champion the role SQPs play across the profession.
To support participation throughout the week, a campaign toolkit is available, providing downloadable resources such as logos, posters, FAQs and activation ideas for anyone wishing to take part: National SQP Week. Organisations and individuals are encouraged to use the materials, share campaign messages and create their own activities to help drive awareness and recognition of the SQP role.
The campaign has been developed in response to an industry survey which revealed there is still more to do to raise awareness of SQP expertise among animal owners, and even across parts of the veterinary and wider animal medicines and animal welfare profession. National SQP Week is designed to address that gap by encouraging the whole industry to come together in support of greater understanding, recognition and engagement.
AMTRA CEO, Stephen Dawson says: “SQPs are highly qualified professionals, yet many people who interact with them don’t fully understand their expertise - or the benefits they can bring. This campaign is here to change that. SQPs provide essential advice to millions of pet owners every year.
“By boosting the SQP profile, we can ensure the knowledge and expertise an SQP provides is fully utilised for better animal health nationwide.”
AMTRA has produced a range of case studies and video testimonials from industry stakeholders including vets, farmers, academia and animal owners, which can be viewed on the campaign page here: National SQP Week.
Stakeholders are already sharing campaign content, spotlighting their SQPs, running local activities and helping spread the word about the important contribution SQPs make to animal health and welfare. The regulators are encouraging even more of the industry to get behind the campaign, build on this positive early momentum and show visible support for the profession.
