New SQPs
Enrolments of persons wishing to become SQPs following the introduction of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2005 are now being accepted. The system has been designed to meet the requirements of students wishing to qualify on the basis of self-study or with the support of in-company training. However, most students find it advantageous to undertake a taught course provided by a specialist educational centre or trainer and a list of these courses which provides information on the examination dates for this year is included.

Existing SQPs
Before October 2008 all SQPs with an “X” prefix to their AMTRA number, i.e. those who have successfully completed an Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) form and had formal notification that their APL has been accepted and 30 credits awarded, must successfully complete an assessment. This has been variously described as an “upgrade”, a “top-up exam”, and a “conversion examination”.
